indianapolis

July 26, 2006

i was 45 minutes late this morning. i held up a bus of children. i am ashamed.

now that i got that out of the way, i had a wonderful day. i got to spend lots of time with all of the fantastic CORE students whom i love so much. there are few things i love more than spending a few hours on a bus with my kids.

i (along with some help from my pal joe) have been experimenting with the isight camera in my new macbook (by the way, i got a macbook…i love it), and we’ve recorded a couple of videos (or video blogs, or vlogs, or vidcasts, or whatever they’re you wish to call them). they’ve been really easy to record, and imovie hd allows you to compress a four or five minute video down to about 5mb and still maintain a pretty high level of watchability. hopefully we can do something cool with those here in the future. also, look for me to try to incorporate some video into this blog. i think that it could potentially be really neat.

the real highlights of my day have been a couple of great reunions. i spent a few hours with my good friend jonathan, who i have not seen in months…maybe a year. hes one of my favorite people in the world, and spending the evening with him reminded my how much i miss our friendship. pee-pie and scooter forever!

i also got to see my good friend baron wester. i love baron. hes played lots of cool roles in my life. musical and spiritual mentor, bandmate, youth leader, co-worker, big brother, and – i’m most proud to say – friend. baron brought along his brother, joel, and their friend chris. we had great french pressed coffee in the hotel restaurant and talked about lots of things, mostly concerning the church at large, its potential, its failings, its future…i think we would all agree that it was refreshing and encouraging. for me one of the neatest things was when joel, as we said good-bye, said to me “josh, you’re refreshing and a joy.” that meant a lot.

a very special night indeed.

last night, on the way back from playing basketball (which, by the way, started as a couple of guys shooting around, and turned into some full blown 5-on-5 action) nathan, micah and i started talking about krystal. and how good it was. and what the perfect combination of menu items was. and how it was best late at night. and how we have a 24 hour krystal a mile from our house…

the next thing we knew we were in the drive-thru. you don’t talk about krystal and then not go there.

a few minutes later, as we engaged in some irresponsible horse-play inside of the car, nathan (who was driving my car) hit the car in front of us. in the drive-thru.

as always, i regretted eating at krystal the second the last sandwich was gone. i love/hate that place so much.

lamar odom

July 17, 2006

i read an espn.com story today about lamar odom today. firstly, my heart goes out to he and his wife, as they recently lost their seven month old son. even having absolutely no personal connection to him, i was horrified to hear that.

the article also discussed a project that lamar odom is currently working on that i found fascinating. he is releasing a line of t-shirts featuring images of jesus. the part that grabbed my attention was that odom required the artists pour over the bible in order to portray the most accurate jesus possible. how great is that?

i would love to see a jesus with some imperfections…maybe he was short, or had bad teeth. who knows?
